What is a Color Sonogram?
Phoenix Sonograms utilizes a screening method called Power Color Doppler Ultrasound to produce sonographic images of the prostate. It is essentially a "high-tech" version of traditional ultrasound, which uses high-frequency sound waves to produce a detailed image of the body's internal structures.
One primary advantage of Power Color Doppler Ultrasound in the detection of Prostate Cancer is that it has a much higher resolution and the ability to highlight (hence the term "color" in the name) areas of blood flow in dense or soft tissue. This allows specific problems such as tumors or inflammation to be viewed and measured clearly.
Prostate sonograms are safe, painless and inexpensive. Unlike other screening methods, they can be repeated as often as necessary to closely monitor areas of concern and assess treatment efficacy. For these reasons, sonograms have been found to be a more effective alternative to biopsies in detecting prostate tumors, and superior to MRI and PET/CT Scans as a means for tracking these tumors. Power Color Doppler Ultrasound can also be used to monitor inflammation and tumors in the breasts and other parts of the human body.

Whether it's in the prostate, breast, or thyroid, a tumor must have blood flow in order to form or exist. In typical cases, altered blood flows can be seen years before the tumor actually develops. Unlike a biopsy, Power Color Doppler Ultrasound allows the doctor to observe and measure blood flows that feed, and always precede, a tumor. The amount of blood flow indicates the aggressiveness of a tumor, meaning that areas of increased flow are more likely to contain cancer and a tumor without blood flow is static or diminishing.
A major advantage of Power Color Doppler Ultrasound is that it's far less invasive than a biopsy. A color prostate sonogram is a quick, pain-free alternative which allows you to avoid the considerable risks associated with needle biopsies. This method also eliminates the potential dangers of radioactive contrast dye or radiation used in other prostate screening procedures such as MRI and PET/CT scans.
The ability of Power Color Doppler Ultrasound to precisely locate and measure questionable tissue and blood flows allows for a more accurate diagnosis of Prostate Cancer, BPH and Prostatitis. Based on the findings, your treatment can then be tailored for maximum effectiveness. Repeat sonograms can be conducted to track and evaluate your healing progress.
